Welcome to my blog: Praise Seitan! Food, Drink & Travel From the Heart of Seattle. Here I will share recipes; reports on food and drink events and establishments; tales of my travels around the world; and observations about life and culture. (To learn about my freelance writing and editing business, visit my professional website.)
The primary mission of this blog is to reflect the love and passion I have for food and drink, local producers and global adventuring back with you, my dear readers. I want others to discover the dishes I love to cook, the beverages I unwind with, the events I experience and the places that make my heart come alive — because we are all part of the collective, and life is meant to be experienced together.
I also want to show you that vegetarian cooking is about more than just tofu (though I do love tofu); I want to celebrate it among those of you who love it, and redefine it for those who are wary. The way I do it, vegetarian food is bold, exciting and bursting with flavor in every bite. It’s about using seasonal produce from local sources and exotic, robust spices; the delicate interplay of textures and tastes; lots of fresh herbs; and combining ingredients that might seem unusual to create something unique and memorable.
Finally, I want to use this blog as a platform to share about my life, including not only the times of celebration, but also my personal struggles: those I have overcome, and those I am still working to break free from. I hope that by being open and honest, I can inspire others who are going through difficult times to persevere; to realize that they aren’t alone, and that light and life are just around the corner.
As for me, I'm a writer and editor who has found her passion in the kitchen as well as behind the keyboard. I'm not only a wordsmith and an amateur chef, but also a kundalini yogi; a world traveler; an urban adventurer; a spiritual seeker; a lefty liberal; an animal lover and tree-hugger; and a lover of all the spice life has to bring. I hope you enjoy my blog!
